Holy Cross, Shamrocks poised to move on in intermediate baseball

Holy Cross and Shamrocks took their respective series leads in the St. John’s Molson Intermediate Baseball League semifinals with wins Monday night.

At St. Pat’s Ball Park, Holy Cross thumped the Knights 13-1 in five innings to grab a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinals.

Bradley Riggs pitched the win. Matty Janes, the first of four Knights pitchers, took the loss.

Nick Evans was three-for-three for the winners, with three runs scored.

In the nightcap, Shamrocks took a 2-1 series lead with a 9-4 decision over RONA Storm.

Josh Fifield pitched the win, and Zack Fitzpatrick picked up the save. Starter Isaac Doyle was tagged with the loss. Michael Molloy also saw mound duty.

Jaxson Gulliver was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored for the Shammies.

Both series resume tonight. Shamrocks and Storm meet at 6 p.m. at St. Pat’s, while Holy Cross and Knights clash at 6:30 p.m. at Mount Pearl’s Smallwood Drive Ball Park.
