Bethany Hynes, a 5-7 midfielder from Paradise, has committed to the Memorial Sea-Hawks women’s soccer team for the 2019-2020 season.

Hynes, attends Holy Spirit High School and plays in the Jubilee Trophy senior women’s league with C.B.S. Kirby United.

A member of Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association’s provincial programs since 2013, Hynes also represented the province at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.

She’s no slouch in the classroom, either. Hynes, who plans to study aducation at Memorial, is on the Principal’s List at Holy Spirit High School.

“Getting to play at such a high level with players I’ve been playing both with and against is something I’m really looking forward to next season,” said Hynes in a release from Memorial Athletics.

Sea-Hawks head coach Mike Power feels Hynes can contribute as a rookie.

“Beth is a dynamic midfielder who I expect will make an impact in the AUS straight away. She covers a ton of real estate, has the tools to contribute at both ends of the park and brings a lengthy list of intangibles that are so valuable,” said Power in the release.

Hynes isn’t the only family member that will be wearing the red and white of a varsity Sea-Hawks side next season. Jane Baird of Memorial’s women’s basketball team is her first cousin.
