The league-leading Conception Bay Central Central Junior Canadians built up a substantial lead and hung to defeat the Conception Bay South Storm 7-6 in Molson St. John’s intermediate softball play Monday night at Lions Park.
The Junior Canadians improved their record to 7-2 as Patrick O’Leary slammed a two-run homer, Peter Kavanagh scored three times and pitcher Eric Healey (2W, 8K) scattered eight hits for the win.
Tyler McDonald (7H, 5W, 8K) took the loss.
McDonald, Jordan Hatch and Mike Gregory each had two hits for the Storm (3-4), which scored two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn’t complete the comeback.
In Monday’s other game, defending champion Lafontaine Club of Placentia downed Sportscraft Waterford Valley 7-3
Johnny O'Reilly (8H, 2W, 11K) pitched the win and drove in two runs for Lafontaine (5-2), while Sheldon Keefe scored three times.
Jordan Noftall (10H, 3W, 4K) was tagged with the loss for Waterford Valley (3-6), which got a couple of RBIs from Geoff Heffernan and two runs from Shane Dobbin,
