Jon Kelly moved into sole possession of second place on the St. John’s Senior Men’s Softball League’s all-time home runs list, passing Hall of Famer Len Beresford Wednesday night at Lions Park.
Kelly hit a two-run home run in the top of the third inning for career No. 73. He entered the season tied with the legendary Beresford with 72 apiece.
Ward Gosse is the all-time leader with 103 dingers. Dick Davis sits at No. 4 with 70 and Blair Langmead is fifth with 64 career home runs.
Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs beat The Bigs 7-5 in eighth innings.
Blair Ezekiel (8IP, 5R, 9H, 1BB, 7K) won over Donny King (8IP, 7R, 10H, 3BB, 9K).
Kelly, Ezekiel, Liam Myers and Stephen Strapp all had two hits for the winners. King, Craig Edmunds and Joey Maynard collected two hits apiece for The Bigs.
Wednesday’s game was the 497th of Maynard’s career, as he enjoyed career hits No. 397 and 398.
Ib another game, NTV Hitmen defeated Kelly’s Pub Junior Canadians 8-1 in five innings.
Robbie Greene (5IP, 1R, 2H, 1HBP, 4BB, 9K) won over Marcus Pittman (4.1IP, 8R, 3H, 10BB, 3K). Greene also homered.
