It will be another Shamrocks-Gonzaga Vikings tussle for the St. John’s Molson Senior Baseball League championship this summer.

Shamrocks punched their ticket to the league championship series with a 4-1 win over Holy Cross Trinity Pub Wednesday night at St. Pat’s Ball Park.

Shammies took the best-of-five semifinal 3-1. Scott Goosney (7.0IP, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 3K) got the win over Sean Janes (7.0IP, 12H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 2K, 1HBP).

Mike Dyke and Dave Penney both had three hits for the winners. Jacob Reid had two in a losing cause.

Shamrocks are the four-time defending champions. They beat Gonzaga three times (in 2016, ’17 and ’18) in the past four years to win the league championship (Shamrocks downed Feildians for the 2019 crown). In 2014 and 2015, Gonzaga won the title (beating Shamrocks in 2015).

Gonzaga advanced to this year’s final by sweeping the Storm in their semifinal series.

The best-of-seven final is expected to start Saturday. Game time is not yet set.
