The Memorial Sea-Hawks found themselves playing catch-up for much of the game and couldn’t overtake the Cape Breton Capers in AUS men’s basketball play Sunday in Sydney, N.S.

The Capers beat the Sea-Hawks 83-77 in the second game of a two-game weekend series. Memorial (2-2) had defeated Cape Breton (2-2) by an 80-74 score in their first meeting Saturday.

Memorial did lead for the first few minutes of Sunday’s contest before Cape Breton moved in front. And the Sea-Hawks were briefly up on Cape Breton for about a half minute in the second quarter, but otherwise it was the visitors chasing the home side.

Nathan Barker led Memorial with 19 points on Sunday, while Cole Long added 15 for the Sea-Hawks. Fellow starters Jason Thompson (13) and Boris Ristanovic (12) were also in double figures.

All five starters were in double figures in Memorial’s victory on Saturday, when Barker also led the way with 19 points. Long added 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Emmanuel Ring (14), Ristanovic (13) and Thompson (10) rounded out the first-rotation contribution.

Memorial, which split its season-opening series against UNB at the Field House in St. John’s earlier in the month is back home for two games next weekend against the Acadia Axemen, also 2-2.
