Haillie Nickerson and the Memorial Sea-Hawks had a statement weekend as they swept the Cape Breton Capers in AUS Sport women’s soccer play in Sydney, N.S.

Nickerson totalled 65 points in two wins — scoring a team high 23 points in an 81-78 win Saturday and a whopping 42 in a follow-up 93-80 victory on Sunday.

The Sea-Hawks (3-1) trailed 47-42 at halftime Sunday, but went on a 31-14 third-quarter run, with Nickerson delivering 15 of the points.

Alana Short added 12 points and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds in the Sunday rematch, while Sammi Deakin-Sharpe contributed nine points off the bench.

Short had 22 points on Saturday, while Deakin again led the second rotation with 19 points.

The results leave Cape Breton winless in four games. That’s twice as many as the Capers suffered  last season when they went 18-2 in the regular season before getting bounced by the 9-11 Sea-Hawks in the second round of the playoffs.

Memorial is back at home next weekend when it takes on the league-leading and undefeated Acadia Axewomen at the Field House in St. John’s.
