Only the East Coast Blizzard managed to secure a playoff berth in the 2019 version of the Monctonian AAA Challenge bantam and midget hockey tournament in Moncton, N.B., and the Blizzard’s playoff hopes didn’t last long with a 6-0 first-round loss to Ontario’s York-Simcoe Express Saturday.

Each of the five Newfoundland and Labrador Major Midget Hockey League teams — the Blizzard, Pinnacle Growlers, Central Impact, Tri-Pen Osprey and Western Kings — all took part in the major midget tournament. The Pennecon Eastern Flyers played in the minor midget event.

There were no teams from this province  entered in the AAA bantam championship.

The Blizzard were 1-1-2 at the Monctonian. The Kings and Osprey were 1-2, and the Impact and Growlers were winless in three starts.

The Flyers posted a 1-2 record in the minor midget tournament.

The Monctonian, played at the four-pad Superior Propane Centre, Kay Arena and Moncton Coliseum, is the largest AAA midget and bantam hockey tournament east of Montreal, featuring almost every midget AAA and most AAA bantam teams in the Atlantic provinces.
