Nobody expected Northeast to go unbeaten this season in the East Coast Senior Hockey League, so it’s not a complete shock the The Bigs Eagles suffered two losses over the weekend following a 3-0 start to kick off the 2019-20 campaign.
Northeast (3-2-0) dropped a pair of road games, losing 6-2 to the Clarenville Ford Caribous (3-1-1) Saturday night and 2-0 to the Conception Bay Blues (1-2-0) on Friday.
On Saturday, Chad Earle scored three times for the homestanding Caribous at the Eastlink Events Centre, while Mason Reid had a goal and four assists. Kevin Reid and Andrew Smith potted singles. Replying for Northeast were Andrew Paul and Tyler Walshe.
In another game Saturday, at the Danny Cleary Community Centre, Jeremy Nicholas and Keenan Kennedy both had two goals as the visiting Southern Shore Puglisevich Breakers beat the Harbour Grace Ocean Enterprises CeeBees Stars 6-4. Thomas Leonard and James Cadigan also scored for the Shore, who travelled with 14 skaters. Brett Shute and Bradley Budden both had a pair of goals for the CeeBees (0-3-0).
It was one of two wins for the defending ECSHL champion Breakers (3-0-1), who officially moved into first place with a 5-2 win over the St. John's Caps (2-2-0) Sunday night at Ken Williams Southern Shore Arena in Mobile.

At the C.B.S. Arena Friday, Matthew Jenkins made 32 saves for the shutout as the Blues blanked the Eagles. Kyle Tibbo and Michael Ryan had the goals.
In another game Friday, at Twin Rinks in St. John's, Kyle McGrath and Mark Rideout both had two goals as the homestanding Caps defeated Clarenville 5-2. Robert Inder had the other St. John’s goal. Kevin and Mason Reid replied for the Caribous.
Sunday night, the Breakers played host to St. John’s at the Ken Williams Southern Shore Arena. However, the result was unavailable as of press time.
