Galway rolled through the opposition en route to winning the 2019 Molson Coors provincial women’s fastpitch championship in Holyrood.

The St. John’s-based team won all six of its games in the five-team tournament and outscored the opposition 57-9 in doing so.

Galway’s one close call came in the round-robin portion of the event when squeezed out a 7-6 victory over Marble Zip, one of two Corner Brook teams in the championship. The other was Whelan’s Gate, which Galway defeated 8-0 in the final.

Whelan’s Gate, which beat the U19 Selects 10-3 in the semifinal round, was 3-3 overall.

The U19s were 2-3, while Marble Zip went 1-4, including a 7-1 loss to Galway in their semifinal.

The U16 Selects, the fifth entry, went 1-3 and didn’t make it to the playoffs.

Members of Galway team include players Jenna Connolly, Jill Connolly, Calista Corbett, Victoria Curran, Victoria Davis, Abigail Gambin, Sami Kennedy, Callie Langmead, Brittany McCarthy, Mariah Morrissey, Dayle Prows and Michelle Rideout, head coach Andrea Wolf and assistant coaches Dwayne Connolly, Gary Corbett and Blair Langmead.

The roster should form the core of Newfoundland and Labrador’s entry for Softball Canada’s 2019 national women’s fastpitch championship, set for St. John’s Aug. 14-18.
