The team that was once known as “Big Blue” must be feeling a little blue these days given its record the past couple of summers.

The St. Lawrence Laurentians were swept by Holy Cross in Johnson’s Challenge Cup provincial senior men’s soccer over the weekend, losing 7-2 Sunday following a 5-1 setback Saturday. Both games were at King George V Park in St. John’s.

The Laurentians have now lost three straight and sit in fourth place in the five-team circuit at 3-7-2.

Last year. St, Lawrence was 7-11-3 and 10-4-6 in 2018.

Sunday, Tyler Kirby scored his league-leading 10th and 11th goals at 25 and 30 minutes to lead Holy Cross.

Jacob Grant (17 minutes), Harry Carter (26), Owen Sheppard (31), Jake Warren (45) and Muftah Ghariba (82) also scored for the Crusaders.

Jordi Slaney had both St. Lawrence goals at 34 and 61 minutes.

Saturday, Sheppard (14 minutes), Grant (55), Colin Connors (57), Mike O'Brien (57) and Harry Carter (77) scored for the Crusaders. Marc Pittman (23) had the only goal for the Laurentians.

In Paradise Saturday, at the Dianne Whelan Soccer Complex, That Pro Look Strikers FC shut out Paradise 3-0
