ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Holy Cross teammates Tyler Kirby and Colin Connors continue to slug it out for the 2020 Johnson’s Insurance Challenge Cup scoring title.
Both scored Saturday — Connors with the winning goal at 79 minutes — as Holy Cross slipped past That Pro Look Strikers FC 2-1 at the Topsail Complexin C.B.S.
Kirby, the runner-up for the 2018 Challenge Cup scoring title, has 12 goals in a dozen games this season. He opened the scoring Saturday at 19 minutes.
Connors, meanwhile, has nine goals in 15 games,, second only to Kirby. A third Holy Cross player – Owen Sheppard – is third in league scoring with eight goals in 15 games.
Kyle Ryan had the Strikers’ =goal Saturday. Ryan is tied with Sheppard with eight goals on the year.
The Holy Cross-Strikers match was the only Challenge Cup game to go ahead this weekend. Two games that were to have been played in St. Lawrence between the Laurentian and visiting Paradise were postponed late last week because of the poor forecast.
