The Memorial Sea-Hawks took the Long road in winning their Atlantic University Sport men’s basketball game Saturday night.

St. John’s native Cole Long poured in 34 points downed the visiting Acadia Axemen 91-72 at the Field House.

Long, who added a team-leading eight rebounds for the Sea-Hawks (3-2), is now the leading scorer in the men’s AUS conference, averaging 20.6 points per game.

Emanuel Ring, who had started the Sea-Hawks first four games of the season, came off the bench Saturday and delivered 13 points. Ring’s brother Deng, contributed eight points and equalled Long with eight boards.

Guard Jason Thompson was in double figures for the winners with 10 points.

Jack Tilley’s 13 points led the Axemen (2-3), who get another shot at the Sea-Hawks this afternoom 2 p.m. at the Field House.

It was also Acadia taking on Memorial in AUS women's action Saturday evening at the Field House, but the result was different, with the first-place and undefeated Axewomen (5-0) coming away with an 89-74 win.

Haillie Nickerson topped Memorial's starting lineup with 21 points, while the Sea-Hawks' bench — led by Sammi Deakin-Shapre, with 19 ponts, and Hannah Green, with 13, — delivered more than half the team's points. However, it wasn't enough for a Memorial team that was outrebounded 48-29 overall and was miserable from three-point range, going zero-for-10 from beyonf the arc. 

Meanhile, defending conference champion Acadia was nine-for-19 in three-point shooting.

The Axewomen and Sea-Hawks (3-2), who met in in the 2018-19 AUS championship final, play again today, noon at the Field House.
