The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has suspended Bay Roberts native Dawson Mercer for six games for a hit to the head of an opponent in a game between Mercers’s Drummondville Voltigeurs and the Val d’Or Foreurs last Saturday.

In passing down its judgment, the QMJHL Department of Player Safety said Mercer seemed “to want to take revenge for an action committed by his opponent and illegally attacks the Foreurs skater (Emil Lessard-Aydin), who is not in possession of the puck.”

The league disciplinarians also said they took into account the incident involved a hit to the head.

Dawson is a first-time offender, but the incident was considered serious enough that he still was given the stiff penance.
