The Chicoutimi Sagueneens is the latest team to be shut down by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League because of a positive COVID-19 test.

One of the team’s staff members received Chicoutimi’s first positive COVID-19 test this week.

According to a QMJHL news release, players and hockey staff will be isolated and tested, and Public Health officials from Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean have been contacted by the league.

The Sags roster includes Bay Roberts native Dawson Mercer. Mercer has four goals and three assists in five games this season. He’s second in team scoring and 40th overall in the league.

Mercer and St. John’s native Alex Newhook are among the 46 players who have been invited to Canada’s national junior hockey team’s selection camp which starts next Friday in Red Deer, Alta.

Mercer played on Canada’s team which won the world junior gold medal last season.
