St. John’s native Clark Bishop will be spending at least one more hockey season with the Carolina Hurricanes after re-signing with the NHL organization Tuesday.
Bishop, a product of the Avalon-Celtics minor system, was a restricted free agent who recently filed for salary arbitration. He agreed to a one-year, two-way contract that will pay him $700,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 if he plays in the American Hockey League.
In all, Bishop has played 247 games since turning professional with the Hurricanes organization in 2016. Of that, 201 games were played with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers.
However, the 24-year-old centre won't be getting an assignment to Charlotte this year; that's because the Hurricanes have changed their AHL affiliation to the Chicago Wolves.

Bishop recorded one assist in five games with the Hurricanes last season. In 25 career NHL games with Carolina, Bishop has a goal and three assists. He appeared in two 2019 playoff games with the Hurricanes.
In 53 games with the Checkers last season, when he was a Charlotte assistant captain, Bishop chipped in with six goals and 13 assists.
“Clark is a versatile, two-way center who knows our system well,” Hurricanes president and general manager Don Waddell said in a news release. “We look forward to him continuing his development this season.”
Bishop was selected by the Hurricanes in the fifth round, 127th overall, in the 2014 NHL Draft. He enjoyed a four-year Quebec Major Junior Hockey League career with the Cape Breton Eagles.
