Over 160 competitors took part as the Newfoundland Bowling Tour (NBT) kicked off the bowling season with the Body Quest Challenge last weekend at Paradise Bowl.

Shane Chafe won the main championship in a final that featured a “playoff pod, which saw the top 10 qualifiers battle in a heads-up format.

Chafe averaged 295 over the 10 games to win by a total of 200 pins. The win moves him into the all-time NBT cash and points lead.

Kelley Hann finished second.

Stephen Browne also had a successful weekend as he won two events, including NBT Survivor, sponsored by Corrina Sears TPI Travel, which used a format that saw 40 bowlers participate and face game-by-game elimination based on their scores. Browne outlasted Andrew Murphy 311-290 in the final.

Browne, along with Robbie Rodgers and Sean Mackey, won the Thompson Financial Baker team event, beating 20 other entries in the process.

The fourth event was a first for the NBT, a pins-over-average event called the Hampidjan Canada POA Challenge. Forty bowlers participated. with Connie Tobin beating Sean Mackey in the final.

The  $11,000 in prizes handed out in Paradise pushes the total cash prizes won in NBT events to over $62,000, as the NBT has become the largest bowling tour association in Eastern Canada.
