The QMJHL is not quite ready to resume play in the Maritimes.
The league postponed this weekend's games in order to buy more time for the region to improve its COVID-19 numbers. Among the games put off until a later date were the Halifax Mooseheads road contest against the Moncton Wildcats on Friday and a home date with the Bathurst Titan on Saturday. The Cape Breton Eagles' back-to-back road games againt the Charlottetown Islanders were also pushed back.
The decision by the league does not come as much of a surprise given the ongoing uncertainty around the pandemic in the region, particularly in New Brunswick where there are more than 300 active cases. QMJHL officials remain in close contact with government leaders in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and P.E.I. and the parties are working towards a more comprehensive plan for the second half of the season. An updated schedule is expected by the end of the week.
