There are some habits that you never want to lose.

Ask the OMT Shamrocks, who claimed both the senior and intermediate championships in St. John’s senior baseball this year.

The intermediate Shammies won their 2019 crown Tuesday night at St. Pat’s Ball Park, where they defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders 5-3 in the seventh and deciding game of the league final.

It’s the fifth intermediate title in six years for the Green and Gold.

The senior Shammies had a much easier time in their final series, sweeping past Feildians in a matchup that ended last week. It was the third city happened to be winners the same three years.

For the record, the Shamrocks have appeared in 13 of the past 17 senior finals, winning nine of them.

Eight players who were on the roster of this year’s senior Shamrocks were part of the organization’s intermediate champs.

Joel Abbbott, Josh Fifield, Raygan Gulliver, Jaxson Gulliver, Graham King, Josh Langmead, Dylan MacKenzie, Paddy O’Reilly and Colin Rose are those who earned double crowns.

And you can add Sean Gulliver, head coach for both teams, and the ageless Peter Cornick, who was assistant coach for the senior side and a player with the intermediates.

You might even describe Sean Gulliver as a player-coach because the former longtime all-star infielder came in and pitched some innings in a game for the intermediate team late in the season.

Other players with the intermediate Shammies are Steven Abbott, Hunter White, Liam Buckingham, Brad Porter, Ben Murphy and Michael Malloy, who started and picked up the win in Tuesday’s Game 7.

Colin Abbott and Neil MacKenzie are assistant coaches.
