Defenceman Matteo Rotandi of the St. John’s Hitmen was named to the first all-star team in the bantam division of the East Coast Ice Jam minor hockey tournament, which concluded Sunday in Halifax.

Rotandi had a goal and two assists for the Hitmen, who lost 4-1 to the eventual champion Moncton Hawks in the quarter-final round of the event.

The Hitmen had a win and two extra-time losses in preliminary play, advancing them to the round of 16, where they defeated Nova Scotia’s Valley Wildcats 5-3.

The Hitmen were the only one of four Newfoundland entries to make it to the round of 16. The TriCom Thunder (o-1-2), Tri Pen Ice (1-2) and Central IcePak (0-3-0) were the other teams from the province.
