St. John's junior hockey: Blades still perfect to start the season

Mount Pearl improves to 4-0 with win over St. John's; Eagles rally to hand Renegades a second straight extra-time loss

The Mount Pearl Blades got goals from a half dozen different players as they defeated the St. John’s Caps 6-2 in Mary Brown’s St. John’s Junior Hockey League play Sunday night at the Glacier in Mount Pearl.

It was a fourth straight win to start the season for the Blades.

Mount Pearl launched 45 shots at St. John’s netminder Devan Parsons and were rewarded with goals from Adam Nolan, Noah Harty, Jared Miley, Jack Keough, Kyle Stevens and Noah Rowe. Nathan Dunne added two assists for the winners.

Replying for the Caps (2-3-0) were Gregory Kehoe and Dylan MacKenzie.

Blades goalie Joshua Corbett stopped 15 of the 17 shots he faced.

Harty and the Caps’ Kyle McGrath, who had two assists, were named their teams’ players of the game.

In Sunday’s other league game, played at Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay, the Northeast Eagles got an overtime goal from Ed Farrell as they rallied for a 5-4 victory over the visiting CBR Renegades.

Northeast (2-2-0) had trailed 4-1 entering the third period.

It was the second extra-time loss in as many games for the Renegades (2-0-2), who were edged 6-5 in a shootout by the Trinity-Placentia Flyers on Saturday at the Conception Bay South Arena.

Saturday’s other SJJHL contest was also decided by a single tally. In that one, St. John’s got by the Avalon Capitals 5-4.
