St. John's senior baseball: Shamrocks one win away from another title

Shamrocks scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning Monday evening, and held on for a 6-2 win and a 2-1 series lead on the Gonzaga Vikings in the St. John’s Molson Senior Baseball League final.

Game 4 of the best-of-five championship series is 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Pat’s Ball Park.

At St. Pat’s Monday, Mike Dyke was two-for-three for Shamrocks with a home run, two RBIs and a couple runs scored to support winning pitcher Matt Murphy (7.0IP, 9H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 9K). Ryan Morgan (5.0IP, 6H, 6R, 6ER, 4BB, 6K, 1HBP) started for Gonzaga and was tagged with the loss. David Lahey (1.0IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 2K) finished up.

Hot-hitting Mike O’Neil was four-for-four for the Vikes. Eric McKay had a pair of hits.

Shamrocks are the four-time defending league champions.
