David Lahey scattered six hits over seven innings, and struck out seven to pace the RMM Gonzaga Vikings to a 5-3, eight-inning win over Storm in St. John’s Molson Senior Baseball League playoff action Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Vikings grabbed a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinal.
In the nightcap, Shamrocks bounced back to tie their series at 1-1 with a 6-2 win over Holy Cross Trinity Pub.
At St. Pat’s Ball Park, Ben Kennedy (1.0IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 1BB, 1K) recorded the save for Gonzaga.
Aaron Peach (7.1IP, 9H, 5R, 4ER, 5BB, 10K, 1HBP) started for the Storm and was tagged with the loss. Grant Kenny (0.2IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 1BB, 1K) saw relief duty.
Eric McKay had three hits for the winners, including a couple of doubles and two RBI. Peter Madden had a single and a two-base hit for the Vikings.
Steve Brien and Shawn Beason both had two hits for the Storm.
Matt Murphy (7.0IP, 9H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 8K, 1HBP) pitched the complete-game win for Shamrocks Wednesday at St. Pat’s. Phillip Edwards (3.1IP, 2H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 1K) was charged with the loss. David Edwards (3.2IP, 6H, 3R, 2ER, 1BB, 2K) pitched in relief.
Brent Power had a single and a double for Shamrocks. Dave Parsons collected three hits for Holy Cross. Blair Penney and Nick Evans each had a pair.
The senior semis resume Saturday at St. Pat’s with Holy Cross meeting Shamrocks at 12:30 p.m., followed by Storm and Gonzaga at 3:30 p.m.
