St. John's senior fastpitch: Hitmen look for one big win after another

After saddling league-leading Bulldogs with a first loss, they face Dodgers in battle for second place

The NTV Hitmen will be looking to maintain the momentum they generated through a big Thursday-night win as they meet up with the 3 Cheers Pub Bud Light Dodgers in Molson St. John’s senior men’s fastpitch league action Saturday afternoon at Lions Park.

On Thursday, the Hitmen (7-4) handed the Kelly's Pub Molson Bulldogs (10-1) their first loss of the season and did so in decisive fashion, thumping the league leaders in a game that was shortened to four innings by application of the league’s mercy rule.

Jeremy O'Reilly (3R HR, 4RBI), Brent Hatfield (HR, 2RBI), Chris Murphy (3RBI), Brad Ezekiel (3R) and Danny Mullins (3R) led the Hitmen, who moved into sole possession of second place with the win.

Lee Cose (4H, 0BB, 5K) pitched the abbreviated shutout. Joel Whelan suffered the loss,

The Dodgers can also sit alone in second by beating the Hitmen in th geame, which has a 1 p.m. start. The Dodgers improved to 6-4 Thursday with a 4-1 extra-inning win over the Chayee Bourras Wines Vines.

Winning pitcher Jason Hill (4H, 2W) struck out 18 in getting the decision over the Vines’ Eric Healey (6H, 3W, 8K)

Colin Walsh scored twice and drove in two runs, both in the extra inning, for the Dodgers.

Saturday's other game at Lions Park has the Bigs (3-8) tangling with the Vines (1-10) at 4 p.m.
