Depending on the results of the next games on the schedule, there could be an early-season three-way tie for first place in the St. John’s Senior Softball League.

The NTV Hitmen top the standings at 3-1, but if they don’t beat 3 Cheers Pub (2-2) at Lions Park Tuesday evening and The Bigs (2-2) comes away with a victory on the following game that sees them tangling with the Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs (1-3), then there would be a trio of teams at 3-2.

On Sunday, 3 Cheers evened its record with a 9-3 win over The Bigs in a game that saw Ryan Maher and Nathan Kenny each hit solo home runs for the winners and teammate Mark Stack collect three RBIs with a pair of doubles.

Kenny's long shot was the first of his senior career.

Colin Walsh struck out six in three innings of scoreless work in relief of starting and winning pitcher Jason Hill.

Sunday’s other game saw The Hitmen take what was given them in a 5-1 victory over the Bulldogs.

NTV didn’t get power pitching, but did receive effective work from the veteran mound combo of starter Lee Cose and reliever Robbie Greene, who each struck out only one batter, but permitted just a single walk (by Greene).

Offensively, the Hitmen used two passed balls and a dropped third strike to open the scoring with a run in the first, then turned three second-inning singles, a wild pitch and two Bulldogs errors into three more scoring plays against Sean Cleary.

Tuesday's schedule sees 3 Cheers and the Hitmen squaring off at 8 p.m., followed by the Bulldogs and The Bigs at 8:30 p.m.
