McQuaid’s late goal lifts Western Capitals past Amherst Ramblers

AMHERST, N.S. — Chris McQuaid scored with 51 seconds remaining in regulation time to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals to a 2-1 victory over the Amherst Ramblers on Monday night.

The Amherst Stadium was the site of the Maritime Junior Hockey League exhibition game.

Caps goaltender Mavrick Goyer was another key contributor to the win, turning aside 35 of 36 shots.

Josh MacDonald drew the only assist on McQuaid’s game-winning goal as the Caps improved to 1-2 (won-lost) in pre-season action. 

Colby MacArthur, who was set up by Cam Roberts, opened the scoring for the Caps 40 seconds into the game. The score remained 1-0 until Aiden MacIntosh tied the game for the Ramblers at 2:30 of the third period.

Tyler Caseley of Spring Valley stopped 26 of 28 shots for the Ramblers, who defeated the Caps 3-1 in Summerside on Sunday night.

The game’s three stars were:
