Logan Firmage’s journey to the 2020 Winter Games being held in Thunder Bay is unique.
The 15-year-old from New-Wes-Valley is a Special Olympics bowler without a bowling alley in which to train. Instead, he throws bowling balls towards a set of pins resting on a rubber mat at his local Lions Club.
He is among a dozen bowlers from Newfoundland and Labrador headed to Ontario to represent their province at the 2020 Winter Games Feb. 25-29.
“I can’t wait to get there,” said Firmage.
Heading to an event of the Winter Games' magnitude is bound to carry with it some butterflies.
Firmage admitted he’s feeling nervous, but he expects it will ease the closer he gets to the event.
“My nerves will go away the first time that I play,” he said.
The trip to Thunder Bay holds some extra significance for Firmage. Not only will it be his first time at the games, it will also be his first time being on an airplane.
“It is going to be fun,” he said of the games. “It makes me feel proud.”
