Newfoundland and Labrador’s mission staff for the 2019 Canada Winter Games was announced Monday by Lisa Dempster, the province’s minister for Children, Seniors and Social Development.
The mission staff for the Games, to be held from Feb. 15 to March 3, 2019 in Red Deer, Alta., will be led by chef de mission Karen Sherriffs of St. John’s.
Sherriffs was an assistant chef for the province’s delegations at the past three Canada Games, including the 2015 Winter Games in Prince George, B.C. and 2017 Summer Games in Winnipeg, when Rod Snow was the chef. These will be the seventh Games for Sherriffs, who was also part of the N.L. mission staff in 2011, 2007 and 1999.
Frank Humber of Corner Brook returns for his third straight Games as an assistant chef de mission and for his sixth Games overall. Gary Martin of Mount Pearl, who has served on five mission staffs, will be the other assistant chef.
Other staff members for the Games include Melissa Blackler, Twillingate; David Coates, Conception Bay South; Ed Flood, Corner Brook; Ian Flynn, Bay Roberts; Tom Godden, St. John’s; Robert Goulding, Grand Falls-Windsor; Brenda Greene, Happy Valley-Goose Bay; Denise Payne, Corner Brook; Jill Russell-Monk, Clarenville; Rosemary Ryan, Kippens; Allison Sturge, St. John’s; and Hank Summers, St. John’s.
Team Newfoundland and Labrador will be represented by approximately 250 athletes, coaches, and managers in Red Deer.
