The Newfoundland Growlers received a nice plug this week when the reputable website, sportslogos.net, named the Growlers’ logo the Creamer award winner as best new primary logo for 2018.
The site is run by Chris Creamer.
A panel of 14 judges voted on the awards, including New York Times sports writer Tyler Kepner, Yahoo! Sports’ Greg Wyshynski and TSN’s Jay Onrait.
The Growlers joined the ECHL as an expansion team for the 2018-19 season, and the logo, featuring the face of a Newfoundland dog in gold and black, was designed by the Idea Factory of St. John’s.
“This logo is just a masterpiece,” said Wyshynski. “The Growlers managed to create a logo that somehow looks gruff and cuddly like this pooch is going to guard the house at all costs unless you distract it with delightful ear scratches.”
As for the Growlers, they’ve been a success on the ice so far with the league’s second-best record (19-8-1). The team is currently on its Christmas break, resuming play on Jan. 28-29 in Reading, Pa. against the Royals, and Jan. 31 in Glens Falls, N.Y. against the Adirondack Thunder.
The team returns home Jan. 4-5 when the Jacksonville Icemen visit Mile One Centre.
