Isn’t that the way things happen sometimes?

The Memorial Sea-Hawks men’s and women’s basketball teams began their Atlantic University Sport regular-season schedules in early November but didn’t face the Saint Mary’s Huskies until less than a week ago at the conclusion of the regular season.
The results of those games finalized the AUS standings and helped determine the matchup for the quarter-final rounds for the conference championship tournament beginning today at Scotibank Centre in Halifax.
And who are the Sea-Hawks facing? In both cases, it’s the Huskies.
In the women’s division, Memorial is the fifth seed, but owns the same 11-9 record as fourth-ranked Saint Mary’s. That includes a split of their two games at the Field House in St. John’s last weekend.

The male Sea-Hawks (5-15) are sixth-seeded and will be very the underdog in their matchup with the Huskies (14-6), who are the tourneys third-ranked team. Saint Mary’s won twice at the Field House last weekend, outscoring Memorial 158-127 in the process.
The Sea-Hawks-Huskies female game is at 1:30 p.m. (NT) today, while the men don’t play until 9 p.m. (NT).
In each case, the quarter-final winners will advance to Saturday semifinals, where the top two seeds in each division await after earning a first-round bye. Championship games are set for Sunday.
