ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Erins from Callahoo, Alta., northwest of Edmonton, made it two straight Canadian senior women’s fastpitch softball championships Sunday, winning the nationals at Lions Park in St. John’s on the strength of a 5-3 decision over Saskatchewan’s Saskatoon G-Force.
The Erins exploded for four runs in the fifth inning to effectively seal the title.
On Saturday, the Host Galway squad from St. John’s defeated Newfoundland and Labrador representative Animal Health Care Centre Wildcats 4-2 in a game to determine eighth- and ninth-place in the nine-team event.
Jenna Connolly (7IP, 1R, 3H, 7K, 1W) got the win over Nova Scotia import Kerrie Boyle (6IP, 4R, 7H, 0W, 4K).
Connolly helped her own cause with two hits, and Victoria Curran knocked in two runs.
Galway, which later lost 5-4 to P.E.I. Stealers Saturday evening, finished the tournament 1-7, and the Wildcats were 0-7.
