Paige Allen of the Blomidon Golf Club in Corner Brook continued her run of wins in the bantam girls age group, taking the title in that division in Tuesday’s Gander Junior Open, the fifth event on the 2019 Tely Junior Golf Tour.
Allen, who has finished first in four of the five events to date, registered a solid score of 40 over nine holes at the Gander Golf Club, finishing well ahead of runner-up Brooklyn Stride, another Blomidon golfer.
Another entrant from Blomidon, Sam Budgen, made it three wins in bantam boys this season with a 50 that gave him a three-stroke margin over second-place Drew Hudson of Clovelly in St. John’s.
Junior-aged Luke Lahey of Grand Falls had a 76, the low score of the day among those who played the full 18 holes.
The juvenile boys division is also played over r18 holes, making for lengthier time on the course. That means the juveniles couldn’t avoid heavy rain combined with thunder and lightning that led to two delays in Tuesday’s competition. When it eventually came to an end, Ethan Efford of Bally Haly recorded his second straight divisional title with an 83 that put him one stroke up on Gander’s Braeden King.
After a one-day break, the Tely Junior Tour resumes Thursday at the Pitcher's Pond Golf Course at Whiteway, Trinity Bay.
