Minor soccer player Lauren Rowe is The Telegram sports department’s choice as athlete of the week.
Rowe starred for the Newfoundland and Labrador under-15 team at the Atlantic under-15 championship last weekend in Halifax, helping her squad to the gold medal.
In the final game, Rowe scored the only goal as Newfoundland beat Nova Scotia 1-0 for the gold medal.
Rowe was a scoring machine for 3-1 Newfoundland at the Atlantics, registering seven goals in four games. She scored all three in a 3-0 win over P.E.I., two in a 3-0 decision over New Brunswick and another in a 2-1 loss to Nova Scotia in NL's opening game.
Despite her age, Rowe plays Jubilee Trophy women’s soccer with C.B.S. Calvin Randell Strikers FC, and had two goals Monday night — a day after returning from Halifax — in a 2-2 tie with Mount Pearl.
