Updated to show Lauren Rowe scored seven goals
Newfoundland and Labrador’s girls’ under-15 team won the gold medal, and to nobody’s surprise, it was Lauren Rowe of C.B.S. leading the way.
Rowe scored the contest’s only goal as Newfoundland got by Nova Scotia 1-0 in the gold-medal game Sunday in Halifax.
Shannon Galway posted the shutout.
It was the only gold medal in girls’ and boys’ U15 and U16 play. Last week, the provincial boys’ U13 and U14 entries won Atlantic gold medals.
Rowe was a scoring machine for 3-1 Newfoundland at the Atlantics, registering seven goals. She also scored all three in a 3-0 win over P.E.I., two in a 3-0 decision over New Brunswick and another in a 2-1 loss to Nova Scotia in NL's opening game.
Three other Newfoundland and Labrador teams placed third of four teams after winning third-fourth place games Sunday.
The U16 girls in Halifax beat New Brunswick 1-0 on a goal by Breanna Gilmore.
In New Brunswick, Owen Afonso scored the only goal as Newfoundland and Labrador beat Nova Scotia 1-0, while Jacob Norman, Johnny Furlong and Taj Exalt had the goals in a 3-1 Newfoundland win over New Brunswick in the U16 boys’ 3-4 game.
