Basketball player Brooklyn Wright and wrestler Dennis Sutton have claimed the latest honours as Memorial University varsity athletes of the week.

Wright, a fourth-year kiniseology student from Cambridge, Ont., is the female winner based on her performance on home court versus the Acadia Axewomen last weekend. The Sea-Hawks lost a pair of matchups against AUS conference-leading Acadia, but not because of lack of effort by Wright, who averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in the two games.

Sutton, a fifth-year engineering student, won a bronze medal in the 100-kilogram division at the Western Open, a meet hosted by the University of Western Ontario in London. Officially, Sutton was 2-2 in the event. However, while his first match ended in a tie in points, the final result saw him taking a tough loss in a decision that was based on rules criteria.

Sutton bounced back from that disappointing defeat, following up with wins over wrestlers from the University of Toronto and York before losing his final match to a competitor from Concordia University.
