There were over 90 judoka from around the province and St-Pierre competing at the Newfoundland and Labrador Spring Provincial Judo Tournament at the St. John's PowerPlex over the weekend.

However, there was much more to the provincial event. There was also a dinner celebrating the 50th anniversary of MUN Judo Club.

Club founder Yves LeGal —  considered the father of judo in Newfoundland and Labrador — travelled to St. John's for the occasion, having moved to British Columbia after his retirement in 1993 to be closer to family.

The weekend also included a black belt evaluation Sunday morning, with Jason Bolton of Corner Brook's Tun Yen Judo Club and Colin Jacobs of Goose Bay Judo Club earning a recommendation for the rank of Shodan.
