Corner Brook's Gary Oke rink wins provincial senior men’s curling championship

A double takeout in the seventh end resulted in four points and a provincial senior men’s curling championship for the Gary Oke rink of Corner Brook.

Oke and his rink — consisting of Blair Fradsham, Mike Mullins and Dennis Bruce — downed the Mike Ryan rink of Labrador City’s Carol Curling Club 7-5 in the final on Sunday at the Corner Brook Curling Club.

Other scores from the weekend on the men’s side were: Henderson 6, Oke 2; Ryan 8, House 3; Henderson 8, House 6; Ryan 11, Harvey 5; Oke 7, House 4; and Harvey 6, Henderson 2.

In the women’s division, Diane Roberts, formerly of Corner Brook, skipped her rink to the win with a 6-3 triumph over Team Dawe.

Corner Brook’s Gallant rink — featuring Marcheta Gallant, Linda Glavine, Madonna Day, and Donna Shears — wound up with an 0-4 record.

Scores from the women’s division over the weekend were: Roberts 8, Gallant 7; Dawe 14, Gallant 4; Roberts 9, Dawe 1; and Roberts 9, Gallant 7.

The winning rinks have now advanced to the nationals in March in Chilliwack, B.C.
