Court is no longer in session for Memorial Sea-Hawks varsity teams.
The Memorial men’s basketball squad got to the Saturday semifinals of the Atlantic University Sports championship tournament in Halifax, but lost to UNB. while the women’s hoopsters and volleyballers were knocked out in the first-round of post-season play on Friday.
In the AUS women’s volleyball tourney at the Field House in St. John’s, the Sea-Hawks were swept 3-0 by defending champion Dalhousie Tigers.
Dal went on to claim its sixth consecutive conference title by downing the Acadia Axewomen 3-2 on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the Memorial women’s basketball team lost 71-61 to Saint Mary’s in Halifax despite a 28-point game from all-star Sydney Stewart. The Sea-Hawks raced out to a 16-6 lead after the first quarter, but the Huskies outscored Memorial by 20 points the rest of the way.
Perhaps fittingly, the Sea-Hawks’ last basket in the game was a three-pointer by graduating fifth year Lindsay Taylor, who is second all-time in three-point shooting in memorial women’s basketball history behind only Michelle Healey.
