Fan favourite Jarryn Skeete made a couple of clutch three-point shots, and Carl English was perfect from the foul line in extra, extra time as the St. John’s Edge pulled out a thrilling 123-120 double overtime win over the Windsor Express Friday night.
The win gives the Edge a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five NBL Canada opening-round playoff series, with Game 2 set for 2 p.m. Sunday in St. John’s.
Before 4,162 fans at Mile One Centre Friday, the Edge rebounded from a 47-39 halftime deficit for the win. St. John’s trailed Windsor by as many as 12 points in the third quarter.
Carl English, Desmond Lee and Wally Ellenson all finished with double-doubles for the Edge. English drained 30 points, with 11 rebounds, while Lee netted 15 points with a matching 15 boards, and Ellenson chipped in with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Maurice Jones led the Express with 30 points. Shaquille Keith had 27 points and eight rebounds.
