Four rugby players will be representing Newfoundland and Labrador on the Canada East under-18 squad that will play in the NA4 competition Dec. 26-Jan. 2 in San Diego, Calif.

Ryan Goodyear from the Baymen Rugby Football Club, Max Tavenor from the Dogs and the Swilers’ Alex Hickman and Lucas Shortall were selected from a Rugby Canada ID camp held at Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S.

The Canada East squad will play two United States rep teams and a Canada West team.

Newfoundland Rock under-18 coach Morgan Lovell is the Canada East attack coach.

“I’m really happy for the guys selected because they’ve been standout members of our program for the past few years, and it will be good for them to be tested at the next level,” he said.

“It also shows the strength of our program with this number of players being picked up to play internationally.”
