Concrete should be poured today for a 25 by 2.5-metre slab that will have an artificial turf-surface mat fixed to it.

That mat is specifically designed for cricket and was purchased in Britain. It is hoped play can begin on the new surface as soon as Saturday as the Cricket NL Summer league continues its schedule, with permanent installation to be completed prior to the Eastern Canadian championships in St. John’s July 21-23.

“This wicket will allow us to host major tournaments, but also will greatly improve the quality of play in local league matches,” said Cricket NL President, Saravana Kumar.
