Sydney Stewart and Nathan Barker, the leading scorers for their Sea-Hawks varsity basketball teams, are the latest Memorial athletes of the week.
Stewart, a fourth-year sociology student from Sarnia, Ont., had 20 points, eight rebounds and three steals as the Memorial women won their first game of the season Monday when the downed the visiting Cape Breton Capers 84-76.
Stewart is the third-leading scorer in the AUS women’s conference with a 16.9 points-per-game average.
Barker had a career-high 35 points as the Sea-Hawks downed the Capers 103-86 in AUS men’s play Monday at the Field House. The performance by the second-year nursing student from Massey Drive on the province’s west coast came on nearly perfect 15-for-16 shooting from the floor.
Barker’s 18.4 ppg average is fifth-best in the conference.
