Kaetlyn Osmond begins defence of her Canadian women’s figure skating championship today in Vancouver.
The 22-year-old Marystown native and the rest of the competitors in the senior women’s divisional skate their short programs this evening and finish up with their long programs/free skates on Saturday.
The Canadian team for the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in South Korea will be formally announced at the end of the competition Sunday, but barring a complete disaster over the weekend, Osmond and Toronto’s Gabrielle Daleman, should claim two of three women’s singles berths available on the national squad.
Osmond was second and Daleman third at the most recent world championships. And Gracenote, a data analytics firm, this week revealed it’s medal projections for the Winter Games, which included a prediction of a gold medal for Osmond, who trains out of Edmonton.
