The four Newfoundlanders on Canada under-20 rugby roster all earned starting assignments Wednesday in a rematch with Portugal.

Campbell Clarke, Thomas Hagan, Connor McKinney and Michael McCarthy of St. John’s, ands all from the Swilers RFC, started Wednesday in a second test match against Portugal in Caldas da Rainha.

Canada dropped a 37-15 decision to Portugal in their first test match Sunday in Portugal.

The games were held to prepare for both teams for upcoming qualifiers for the World U20 Rugby Trophy championship slated for July in Brazil.

Portugal, which defeated Canada at the World Trophy last year and finished third in the tournament (Canada finished seventh), plays in the European qualifier, while the Canadians and the United States will play a two-game, total point series in British Columbia in June.

The winner advances to play in Brazil.
