Richard Wells was boasting mid-season ski conditions after a run down the hill at Marble Mountain on Monday afternoon.

He was in good spirits after a blanket of snow hit the region overnight and crews at the facility have been able to get 90 per cent of the hill in good shape for the opening of the hill on Saturday when over 1,800 people hit the powder for their first trip of the season.

Skiers and snowboarders all smiles with opening of Marble Mountain

According to Wells, who is sales and marketing manager, there were about 1,200 visitors on Sunday and only about 300 on Monday but he figures the drop in numbers is a result of children having to return to the classroom Monday after enjoying the holiday break.

When he got up Monday morning he was figuring about two feet of snow had fallen, but when he got to Marble there was less and he blamed the wind for blowing it off the mountain.

He was happy to see so many skiers and snowboarders hit the hill over the weekend. He said it was great to see so many young people giving the sport a try for the first time and also the dozens of families who spent the day together on the mountain.

He said there were some minor hiccups on opening day, but that’s something he said comes with the territory so there wasn’t any reason to be overly concerned when it came to minor issues with internet service and the chairlift being stopped for a brief period.

More snow is expected to fall this week and the thermometer dipped on Monday so it will be a little on the chilly side so he expects the hill to see consistent traffic over the next week.
