The Memorial Sea-Hawks men’s basketball team finished up a busy pre-season run through southern Ontario with a 73-57 win over the York Lions Sunday in Toronto.
It was the fourth game in as many days for the Sea-Hawks, who split the contests, losing 117-72 to the Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo, Ont., on Thursday, before following up with a 90-84 victory over the Waterloo Warriors Friday and a 101-89 setback at the hands of the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday.
Stats for Sunday’s wrap-up game were unavailable, but it might be a good bet that Emmanuel Ring was the Sea-Hawks’ leading scorer in the contest.
Ring, a first-year player out of Prince of Wales Collegiate in St. John’s, topped the team in scoring its first three contests, registering 18, 24 and 18 points respectively.
Ring is one of seven rookies on the roster for Memorial, which opens its 2018-19 season with Nov. 3 and 4 games at UPEI.
There was another young Memorial varsity team in pre-season action in Ontario on the weekend.
The Sea-Hawks women’s volleyballers, also with seven first-year players, were participating in the University of Ottawa’s GeeGees Invitational, where they lost all four of their matches — to Guelph, Toronto, Sherbrooke and Montreal — in straight sets (2-0).
Next action for the v-ballers is this coming weekend when they take on visiting Royal Military College in matches Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
