Ret’d Cpl JoAnne Gilliland Power of Portugal Cove has been chosen to represent Canada in the Invictus Games in Sydney, Australia next month.

She will be competing in archery and sitting volleyball.

The Invictus Games, created by the Duke of Sussex (Prince Harry) in 2014, is the only international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.

Power was the first anglophone female weapons technician and third overall in the history of the Canadian Armed Forces. She served at bases in Montreal, Gagetown and Ottawa, and was deployed to Egypt before retiring from the Forces in 1985.
