The No.1 seed Newfoundland Rock carry a 5-0 record into today’s semifinal at the Eastern Canadian under-18 rugby championship in Wolfville, N.S.
The Rock are slated to play fourth-seeded Prince Edward Island is one of two semifinals today. The other playdown features the second- and third-seeded teams, Ontario and Nova Scotia.
The U18s aren’t the only Newfoundland team in a playoff game today in Wolfville. At the Eastern Canadian U16 event, the Rock’s U16 team will face one of a number of Ontario entries in the division.
The U16 team was 1-1-1 in preliminary play.
The U18s beat Nova Scotia 38-0 Thursday, with Stefan Abbott selected man of the match. On Wednesday, the U18 Rock downed Eastern Ontario 20-5 with Carter Gavin coming away with man of the match honours.
The U16s also played Thursday, but lost to Ontario Blue 22-15.
