Amanda Kean and Kristen Cooze both had a hand Canada’s two goals.
Kean, a 26-year-old forward from St. Anthony, scored the game-winner and had an assist on the other Canadian tally, while Cooze, a 24-year-old defender from Kippens, had two helpers.
They are two of five players from Newfoundland and Labrador on the Canadian roster, with Chloe Tinkler of Wabush, April Drake of St. John’s and Dawn Tulk of Port Saunders also on the team.
With two goals and two assists in three games, Kean is the second-leading scorer for Canada (2-1-0) heading into a matchup today against Italy (0-2-1).
The world men’s championship is also being played in Pardubice, where Canada’s roster features seven Newfoundland players and a coach.
Marcus Power (1G, 5A) of St. John’s is the leading scorer so far for Team Canada, whose lineup also features Kevin Reid of Norman’s Cove, Nathan Yetman, Jordan Escott , Jim Babij and Brad Yetman of St. John’s, and Patrick O’Keefe of Mount Pearl.
Ian Moores of Bay Roberts is the team’s head coach.
The Canadian men had Monday off heading into an important game against Slovakia today. Both Canada and Slovakia have won their first three games, but the Slovakians are a point ahead since one of the Canadian wins came in extra time.
Teams gets three points for a regulation-time win and two points for a victory in extra time.
