NKD2, Swilers take titles in inaugural provincial basketball U16 club championships

A pair teams from St. John’s clubs, NKD2 girls and Swilers boys, won the first provincial under-16 boys and girls provincial basketball club championships held over the weekend at the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre in St. John’s.

Hosted by the Swilers Basketball Club, the host team beat Mount Pearl Celtics 83-66 for the boys’ crown. Swilers’ Tyler Jordan was the MVP, and Jiovanni Drake of the Celtics was the top defensive player.

In the girls’ tournament, NKD2 beat On The Ball 67-38 in the final. NKD was led by tournament MVP Caroline Jardine. The top defensive player was Aluel Achick from On The Ball.

Thirteen teams, including two from west coast and one from central, took part in the tournament.
